September Sephora Play & Ipsy!

As always, if you don’t know was Ipsy is, it’s a monthly beauty subscription service. For only $10/mo, you get five products and a makeup bag! If you want to sign up, you can do so here.

This month, I have to say is one of my favorite months. There is actually only one product that I am not at all excited about, but you’ll have to keep reading to find out which one. If you are new to my blog, then my reviews start from least favorite to most favorite! Keep on reading!

Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme
This product is meant to make the lips look more plump. I already have plump lips so I don’t need any help in that category. Not to mention, people complained about burning lips when they used this. So, to the bottom of the list this goes.

EYEKO Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner in Black
It was hard trying to find an order for the next four items, but this liner is next on the list. I admit, it would have been higher had I not received Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Sephora’s box. BUT, I am always looking to compare liners. I have very hooded eyes, so it creates an extra challenge during application of liners.

GLOW for a cause BODY BUTTER Inspire
The body butter actually feels amazing! It’s not greasy and would work well on both hands and face. I don’t think it’s heavy enough for those hard hitting areas (knees, elbows, etc), but I’d love to toss this in my bag right now! (PS, it smells great!)

Onomie Powerful Priming Serum in Truth
I’ve never heard of a toning primer, but I’m intrigued enough to put this higher on my list. Not to mention, the primers I have been getting so far have been A+! Apparently, this can be used on it’s own or as a base for foundation so it’s versatile as well.

ToGoSpa Eyes by ToGoSpa in Green Tea EYES
Ah! I cannot wait to try these out! Lately, my eye bags have gotten out of control, so these will be thrown right into the thick of things. I’ve been enjoying my skincare routine and I am excited to see where these fit in and compliment that routine.

Sephora Play is also a $10 monthly beauty subscription box! This box comes with 6 products instead of the 5 in Ipsy. And again, I am going to start with my least favorite and work my way to most favorite! Starting with…..!

SEPHORA COLLECTION Rouge Shine Lipstick: Love Spell
I struggled with what to put first and finally decided on the lipstick. It’s really pink, and because of that, I don’t think it’ll look good on me. It’ll definitely take some gymnastics and creativity to make it work. It’s also really shear, so I’m not sure that it’ll play well with my vibrant, matte, lipsticks. Some good points, it seems really long lasting, and not sticky at all.

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day® Night Cap Overnight Perfector
I like hair products, but they rate low because I assume they aren’t made for my hair. Reading the description, it seems like a night time hair masque that you wash out in the morning. It sounds like it’s meant for people who wash, or at least, rinse their hair daily. Despite that, it smells really amazing and feels like it might actually have some pretty good slip. It might not be a stand alone detangler, but might compliment my current routine by providing some more yummy hair nutrition.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel
Even now, I wonder if I should have really rated this under the hair cream, but I boosted it up because it’s a product that I have never tried. I’m really a minimalist when it comes to my brows and have never really cared for a brow gel. That being said, I’m eager to see if this helps in cutting down time needed to do my brows!

Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation
I tried this on and this product is really deceiving! It looks really thick, but because it’s whipped, it goes on so thin and light! It’s oil free, so it would make my already oily skin any oilier and it actually settles really nicely without giving me that “shine” that other moisturizers sometimes cause. On top of that, it says that it can also be used as a primer/base for foundation.

Atelier Cologne Collection Azur – Sud Magnolia
Omg this is going to be my signature scent for the fall! It smells so, so good! I know perfume scents are 100% subjective, so reading a review of it is somewhat pointless. But it has “notes of magnolia from Louisiana, bitter orange from Seville, and atlas cedarwood from Morocco“. If there are two things in life that I love smelling, fresh scent and wood are it!

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner
I had to rate this highly because I was a day out from buying this before finding out this came in my box. I’ve used this liner a million times in the past and it’s extremely easy to apply (even with my hooded eyes) and it’s very black! The fast drying ability is what I love the most. What more can I say?!

Well, that wraps up September’s boxes rundown! What were your favorites for the month? Have you tried any of the products listed?”

August Ipsy: Skin Care Jackpot!

Hey everyone! It’s a little late but here is my Ipsy for August! As usual, I am going to do my rundown from least favorite to most excited!

FORMULA X Nail Polish in Dollface
If you follow my blog at all, you probably know that I do not like getting nail polish! I almost never do my nails, and if I do, I just go to the salon. So, needless to say, not only am I not excited to get this polish, but I hate this color.

Peter Lamas Supreme Radiance Complexion Booster
I know. I know. What am I thinking putting a skin care product so low on the list?! Well, I don’t really have complexion issues! I’m sorry guys! I never even opened this, since I traded with a buddy for her NYX Professional Makeup BORN TO GLOW LIQUID ILLUMINATOR in Sunbeam.

Trust Fund Beauty Liquid Lipstick in K, Bye
This is in the middle because I am on the fence about this lipstick. Reason being, I feel like this is a little glossier than I’d prefer in a lipstick. I also worry that I can’t pull this shade off. But, that being said. I’m really to give it a try!

IT Cosmetics No-Tug Waterproof Mini Gel Eyeliner
I have plenty of eyeliners, so I don’t know why I’m so excited to try this out. My swatch of this wasn’t quite as pigmented as I was expecting, but I feel like this would be perfect for tight lining or even a light, daytime smoky look! It’s creamy and blends out really well.

Despite rating the other skincare item from this bag much lower, I’ve been so excited to try this out! I’ve seen a few people using this and it looked so soothing, and guess what! It was! I actually decided to use this after my 5 and a half hour bike ride in order to test it out and it felt amazing. If you’d like a full review of this item, comment and let me know! Check out my demo here!

Thank you for reading! If you’d like to see swatches of anything let me know. What did you get in your bag?

Proper Tasty: Creamy Chicken and Pasta

My last tasty recipe was a borderline bust and made me leary of trying any other tasty recipes. But, this one looked simple enough and I had 90% of the ingredients on hand, so why not!

Creamy Chicken Pasta by Tasty Proper

Let me start off by saying that this recipe was really easy and the only thing I had to buy was the “double” cream. Fun fact, double cream is the British way of saying heavy whipping cream. I found the exact size I needed at my local target. There are no given serving sizes, but I got exactly four servings out of this.

The Good: All of the flavor is there. The lemon shines right through and makes this taste so refreshing! The chili flakes add that little after taste punch that keeps the flavors tingling in your mouth, but doesn’t provide an overwhelming amount of heat.

The Bad: I think this might have been better with chicken thighs, but I admit that I overcooked the breast so it was borderline dry. The amount of thyme called for is about twice as much as it should be. I cut the amount in half and it was perfect! Thyme is not something you want to go overboard with. Finally, I’d add more spinach next time in order to make it heartier.Creamy Chicken Pasta by Tasty Proper

I used freshly grated Parmesan instead of the kind in the jar, and I’m glad that I did. I think it made the dish a little thicker. Also, it’s so pretty to top your dish off with!

Overall, if you are looking for a 4 serving meal, this is your meal!  What Tasty recipes are your favorite?

Review: Hydro Flask 40oz Bottle

If you are trying to lose weight or get/stay healthy, then you may (or may not) know how essential water is to your diet. We (human beings) are made up of about 60% of water, meaning it’s important to maintain that balance. Also, water, though having no direct relationship to weight loss, it is a good idea to substitute those sugary, high calorie drinks for a glass or bottle of water. There are some other benefits to staying well hydrated: helps minimize muscle cramping, keeps skin looking good, good for your kidneys, and helps to keep you “regular”. All of these reasons lead me away from my cranberry juice crutch and towards a better hydrated life.
The problem is, all of the bottles I used would either be too small (aka constant refills), or would sweat all over the place. Have you ever tried picking up a sweaty bottle after applying lotion on your hands? No fun. It’s like picking up a salamander: slick and gooey feeling. Anyway, in times like those, I get onto Amazon and browse around for a decent sounding water bottle. That’s how I came across the Hydro Flask. It had great reviews on all of the different style of bottles, so I figured, what the heck!
Hydro Flask is a company that was founded in Hawaii in 2008. They advertise their bottles to be double-walled, vacuum insulated, BPA free, and made of food grade stainless steel. Also, they claim that their bottles will stay cold for up to 24 hours and hot for up to 12 hours. On top of the features of the bottles, there are a wide range of sizes and styles offered. There are even exchangeable lids that you can buy to suite your needs. The bottle range from 12oz all the way up to 64oz, come in a wide array of colors, and there are even food flasks available.
I bought the 40oz Hydro Flask in red. It has a wide mouth which makes dumping ice in so easy and hassle free. The stainless steel is extremely durable. I have not dropped this, but I’ve banged it around a lot (as I swing it around on my way to refill it, oops!). No color has chipped off, though it’s picked up a few scuffs here and there. The lid and lid attachment are made of a hard plastic. They feel quite sturdy as the little loop is my chosen method of carrying the bottle around and it doesn’t feel look or show any signs of ware.
There are some things that I’m actually (pleasantly) surprised about. The finish on the bottle isn’t smooth like you’d expect from a metal/steel bottle. It has a slightly rough texture to it that I personally like the feel of. I don’t feel as if this bottle can slip out of my hand, Which brings me to the fact that this bottle doesn’t sweat…at all! In fact, the bottle isn’t cold to the touch. I expected the bottle to do a better job of not sweating all over the place, but I did underestimate the reviews I read about how well it handled cold/hot temperatures.
I’m also surprised that this bottle lives up to staying cold for up to 24 hours. Living in Texas, in the summer is the perfect time to test this bottle out. I’ve had this bottle out in 100 degree heat for an hour and then over night and still woke up to ice in the bottle. I’ve also left the bottle in the car, in direct sunlight (by mistake), but came back to ice-less but cool water. I’ve been able to leave my bottle on the floor of my car (shaded) for up to 3 hours without the ice melting completely. Also (and most importantly), there is no added taste. There’s (obviously) no plastic taste that you get from other bottles and there is no metallic taste that you get with aluminum bottles.
Some cons to the specific bottle that I got is it’s size. I personally don’t care, but I’ve gotten comments from people about how big it is. *shrug* Apparently people don’t like that. But, I’m sure the 18oz and 21oz bottles are “normal” size. Another con (again comments coming from other people) is that this bottle is not USA made. It’s made in China, and I know how people are not quite a fan of that sometimes (especially when it’s something that we eat/drink from).
Overall, this bottle is quite amazing. If you don’t mind that the bottles are made in China, and need a tasteless solution to a sweaty water bottle, then this is a great bottle to try out. Again, the actually website is here, but I ordered mine on Amazon.
