September Sephora Play & Ipsy!

As always, if you don’t know was Ipsy is, it’s a monthly beauty subscription service. For only $10/mo, you get five products and a makeup bag! If you want to sign up, you can do so here.

This month, I have to say is one of my favorite months. There is actually only one product that I am not at all excited about, but you’ll have to keep reading to find out which one. If you are new to my blog, then my reviews start from least favorite to most favorite! Keep on reading!

Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme
This product is meant to make the lips look more plump. I already have plump lips so I don’t need any help in that category. Not to mention, people complained about burning lips when they used this. So, to the bottom of the list this goes.

EYEKO Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner in Black
It was hard trying to find an order for the next four items, but this liner is next on the list. I admit, it would have been higher had I not received Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner in Sephora’s box. BUT, I am always looking to compare liners. I have very hooded eyes, so it creates an extra challenge during application of liners.

GLOW for a cause BODY BUTTER Inspire
The body butter actually feels amazing! It’s not greasy and would work well on both hands and face. I don’t think it’s heavy enough for those hard hitting areas (knees, elbows, etc), but I’d love to toss this in my bag right now! (PS, it smells great!)

Onomie Powerful Priming Serum in Truth
I’ve never heard of a toning primer, but I’m intrigued enough to put this higher on my list. Not to mention, the primers I have been getting so far have been A+! Apparently, this can be used on it’s own or as a base for foundation so it’s versatile as well.

ToGoSpa Eyes by ToGoSpa in Green Tea EYES
Ah! I cannot wait to try these out! Lately, my eye bags have gotten out of control, so these will be thrown right into the thick of things. I’ve been enjoying my skincare routine and I am excited to see where these fit in and compliment that routine.

Sephora Play is also a $10 monthly beauty subscription box! This box comes with 6 products instead of the 5 in Ipsy. And again, I am going to start with my least favorite and work my way to most favorite! Starting with…..!

SEPHORA COLLECTION Rouge Shine Lipstick: Love Spell
I struggled with what to put first and finally decided on the lipstick. It’s really pink, and because of that, I don’t think it’ll look good on me. It’ll definitely take some gymnastics and creativity to make it work. It’s also really shear, so I’m not sure that it’ll play well with my vibrant, matte, lipsticks. Some good points, it seems really long lasting, and not sticky at all.

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day® Night Cap Overnight Perfector
I like hair products, but they rate low because I assume they aren’t made for my hair. Reading the description, it seems like a night time hair masque that you wash out in the morning. It sounds like it’s meant for people who wash, or at least, rinse their hair daily. Despite that, it smells really amazing and feels like it might actually have some pretty good slip. It might not be a stand alone detangler, but might compliment my current routine by providing some more yummy hair nutrition.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel
Even now, I wonder if I should have really rated this under the hair cream, but I boosted it up because it’s a product that I have never tried. I’m really a minimalist when it comes to my brows and have never really cared for a brow gel. That being said, I’m eager to see if this helps in cutting down time needed to do my brows!

Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation
I tried this on and this product is really deceiving! It looks really thick, but because it’s whipped, it goes on so thin and light! It’s oil free, so it would make my already oily skin any oilier and it actually settles really nicely without giving me that “shine” that other moisturizers sometimes cause. On top of that, it says that it can also be used as a primer/base for foundation.

Atelier Cologne Collection Azur – Sud Magnolia
Omg this is going to be my signature scent for the fall! It smells so, so good! I know perfume scents are 100% subjective, so reading a review of it is somewhat pointless. But it has “notes of magnolia from Louisiana, bitter orange from Seville, and atlas cedarwood from Morocco“. If there are two things in life that I love smelling, fresh scent and wood are it!

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner
I had to rate this highly because I was a day out from buying this before finding out this came in my box. I’ve used this liner a million times in the past and it’s extremely easy to apply (even with my hooded eyes) and it’s very black! The fast drying ability is what I love the most. What more can I say?!

Well, that wraps up September’s boxes rundown! What were your favorites for the month? Have you tried any of the products listed?”

August Sephora Play: Makeup Mother Load!

Sephora really came for me this month with their August Play box! If you are a regular to my blog, you’ll know that I rate my Ipsy posts from least favorite item, to most excited to try. Well, boy did I have a hard time deciding what to rate what. So, as you read this, know that this whole box is rated very highly overall.

First up!….

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara
I put this first only because I have been getting a lot of mascaras lately. This retails for $22 for the standard size. I really like the wand on this and it will probably be opened pretty soon even though I have a two at a time rule for mascaras. The reason I like this wand so much is that I like to use the edges of the wands to get my inner lashes really well and most of the thinner applicators simply can’t do that.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Shadow Eyeshadow (I-544)
It was a toss-up whether I was going to put this first or not. This retails for $21. This shade has a great pink shimmer, but deep toned enough to transition into the coming fall months flawlessly. The only reason I rated this so “low” was because I feel like I have this shade already. Am I still excited to try this out? Of course!

Lancôme Énergie de Vie The Smoothing & Glow Boosting Liquid Moisturizer
I know a lot of people rave over Lancôme skin care products and I’m hoping to find out why with this moisturizer. The full sized product retails for $55. The moisturizer is market as a refresher and hydrator for all skin types while also a good mixer for foundation to achieve a dewy finish. This looks very much like a serum instead of a moisturizer, so that’s my first plan when I use this.

SEPHORA COLLECTION Contour Eye Pencil 12hr Wear Waterproof (Love Affair)
So, I’ll be honest, this and the next item are more or less rated based off of price because I just couldn’t decide. Love Affair is an amazing almost metallic purple. With fall around the corner, I’m bouncing in my seat to make a plum smoky look! The pencil is pretty creamy, but I can’t speak about it’s lasting ability yet.

Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm
I feel like eye creams are usually a scam, but this markets itself less as a “eye cream” and more of a roided up moisturizer. Also a mask that helps to reduce puffiness and dark circles. It retails for $68 and it claims other benefits such as anti-aging and wrinkle reducing, but eh, we’ll see!

CLEAN Reserve Warm Cotton
I love getting fragrances because I’m too cheap to buy them myself. This retails for $25 for .34 oz or $90 for 3.4oz. It is a floral/musky scent and smells like a man wearing fresh laundry (aka delicious). I did test this on my wrists and it’s definitely long lasting. The scent isn’t too overbearing and would be great for any season!

August Ipsy: Skin Care Jackpot!

Hey everyone! It’s a little late but here is my Ipsy for August! As usual, I am going to do my rundown from least favorite to most excited!

FORMULA X Nail Polish in Dollface
If you follow my blog at all, you probably know that I do not like getting nail polish! I almost never do my nails, and if I do, I just go to the salon. So, needless to say, not only am I not excited to get this polish, but I hate this color.

Peter Lamas Supreme Radiance Complexion Booster
I know. I know. What am I thinking putting a skin care product so low on the list?! Well, I don’t really have complexion issues! I’m sorry guys! I never even opened this, since I traded with a buddy for her NYX Professional Makeup BORN TO GLOW LIQUID ILLUMINATOR in Sunbeam.

Trust Fund Beauty Liquid Lipstick in K, Bye
This is in the middle because I am on the fence about this lipstick. Reason being, I feel like this is a little glossier than I’d prefer in a lipstick. I also worry that I can’t pull this shade off. But, that being said. I’m really to give it a try!

IT Cosmetics No-Tug Waterproof Mini Gel Eyeliner
I have plenty of eyeliners, so I don’t know why I’m so excited to try this out. My swatch of this wasn’t quite as pigmented as I was expecting, but I feel like this would be perfect for tight lining or even a light, daytime smoky look! It’s creamy and blends out really well.

Despite rating the other skincare item from this bag much lower, I’ve been so excited to try this out! I’ve seen a few people using this and it looked so soothing, and guess what! It was! I actually decided to use this after my 5 and a half hour bike ride in order to test it out and it felt amazing. If you’d like a full review of this item, comment and let me know! Check out my demo here!

Thank you for reading! If you’d like to see swatches of anything let me know. What did you get in your bag?

July | Ipsy and Play by Sephora!

Hey guys! I have a special box for you this month! I FINALLY got off the Sephora Play waiting list in enough time to snag the July box, and boy did I luck out!

(I always start from least favorite to most favorite.)

Play by Sephora
Sephora beauty box

Ouai Wave Spray
This is my least favorite because I’m pretty sure it’s not catering to my hair when it talks about natural wave. (lol!) But, that being said, it’s a great size, so I will have plenty of time to test it out with different styles. And (probably best of all) when the product is used up, the spritz bottle will be a great travel bottle!

Too Faced Soleil Matte Bronzer: Chocolate
I am obsessed with bronzers and I want to be more excited about this, but I’ll have to shelf this product for a few months until I get my winter shade back. I swatched this and I am exactly this shade. It might work as a setting/pressed powder, but I have to admit that I’m disappointed. (Of course this smells delicious though!)

Nest Fragrances: Citrine
Layers of fresh lotus flowers and freesia mingle with bright citrus and a base of precious woods. What better way to tell you about a scent than to post it’s description. I love getting fragrances! This smells amazing and I’ll probably use this up by the end of the month.

Beauty Blender Blotterazzi
I’m all about blotting pads! (Oily girl, checking in.) Having a reusable pad that I can just slip into my bag sounds amazing and I can’t wait to take this for a test drive! The foam feels really soft and pliable, but not so delicate that it feels like it will fall apart when washing.

Fire Aid Beauty: Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay
This is  a foaming gel cleanser that I feel will be perfect for my after ride skin routine! I don’t currently have anything that is considered a “deep cleanser”, and this will fit in perfectly and will probably replace two of my products that I am currently using!

Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer
I have actually put this in my cart a few times and now I don’t have to actually buy it! With the summer well underway here in TX, my pores have been making themselves known. I don’t have a huge issue with my pores, but it becomes more noticeable in the summer.

Briogeo Curl Charisma
I actually got this in another Ipsy and probably rated as my least favorite product, but now that I have two, I can probably give this a try. It’s just too small to get anything worthwhile out of it.

Luxie Beauty Small Angle Eye Brush
*gasp* Brittany is putting a brush lower on the list?! Why!?! Well, it’s only because I have a brush like this already. I love it so I don’t need this to take the place of something else on my list. It’s a firm brush so you can really press shadows into the eye or use heavier (i.e. cream) liners without difficulty. It held up really well to cleaning, but I’ll save more for a brush review if there’s interest.

Ofra Cosmetics Lip Liner: Maya
I love this shade! Also, this pencil is creamy and very pigmented. It claims to be water/drink proof and long lasting. From my swatch, I feel like that is probably true. I have other Ofra products that I’ve loved. I’m hoping this eventually makes that cute as well.

Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer
This primer is marketed as doubling as  a moisturizer and primer, and I’m leery by nature of products that claim to be double duty. Also, I am an oily girl, so I never really desire a primer that gives a “dewy” or “radiant” look. To me, that’s code for shiny.  That being said, it might be a good primer for around the eyes to “wake” my look up a bit.

Thrive Causemetics Infinity Waterproof Eyeliner: Lauren
Eye liners almost never make the top of my list, but this liner felt really good when applied. I feel like I could get that 90s grunge look easily! Also, it has a built in sharpener and smudge tip. I love multi-use tools for travel purposes. (Yea, I like multipurpose tools not products! :P) This has shea butter in it and I think that might be why this feel so lightweight even though it’s so pigmented.

Day in the Sun: Skin & Food Routine

Saturday, I attended the Peach Pedal, which is a hilly, hot ride out in Weatherford, TX (about 20 minutes west of Fort Worth). I did the 39 mile route and needless to say, spending 3 (or more) hours out in the Texas sun in the middle of July can be hard on the body and skin. It takes a lot of preparation, which I won’t go into much in this post, but I started my day off with a light breakfast.

Two hard boiled eggs and a Lara Bar might not seem like much to sustain 40 miles, but bike rallies are fully supported which means that there are rest stops every 8-10 miles with fruit, sandwiches, cookies, water, Gatorade, and more. So, I only need enough to “get me going”.

On top of a light breakfast, I prepare a recovery drink: Hammer Nutrition Recoverite. I swear by Hammer products and have always noticed good results. I have their protein powder, electrolyte tablets, supplements, and gels! But the Recoverite is probably the best part of my routine. I use this for not only my bike rides, but also as a recovery drink after my normal workouts. It’s helped keep soreness down, prevent charlie horses, and forces me to drink water and rehydrate after a long time in the sun.

Finally, I spoil my face when I’m done. I never use exfoliators after being in the sun for hours, so instead, I swear by Lush’s Coalfact Charcoal Bar. I’m not going to sugar coat it. It’s an expensive bar of soal (at $14 for 3.5oz), and I even baulked a little when I bought it. But, it’s done wonders for my face by removing all of that salt, sunblock, and grime without making my face feel stripped. Even though it’s not really an exfoliant, it does have “granules” that are almost massaging. I follow that up with a face mask. Lately, I have been enjoying my Leaders Coconut Gel Mask with Broccoli. They are expensive masks (at $6 a piece), but they feel really great and it’s so, so soothing to have that cool gel on your face after facing a 100 degree morning.

Finally, I have been using up my samples of Merlot Collection Moisture Day Cream. If you click that link, you’ll see why I only have samples! Haha! I don’t know if it’s worth the price, but it’s definitely one of the better moisturizers that I have ever used.

June Ipsy! Urband Decay, ColorPop, and More!

So, it’s been so long since my last post, too long. But, I was featured on Clarina’s blog! If you haven’t been to her blog, check it out! She provides beauty tips as well as blog advice.

So. I left out a few month of these posts, but this month’s Ipsy was awesome! If you don’t know what Ipsy is, it’s a monthly beauty subscription that comes with (mostly) sample sized beauty products as well as a makeup bag!

IMG_0009This month’s star is the Urban Decay shadow in Lounge. It’s my first Urban Decay eyeshadow and I’m so excited to get a look going with this!

IMG_0011I’ve never heard of Boo-Boo Cover-Up and this concealer is a few shades lighter than my skin tone, but has no chalkiness due to its light tone. It’s thick enough to cover any unfavorable areas. It feels creamy and blendable (probably due to the aloe vera and chamomile) and I’m excited to add this to my highlighting regimen.

IMG_0014I’m not a fan of this color (Secret). On my skin-tone, it’s a pale pink, which I personally don’t think I can pull off. But, what better time to try light pinks than the summertime! It feels smooth and moisturizing, but I have no idea on it’s longevity.

IMG_0016This is my first body scrub from Ipsy and I’m pumped! I love body scrubs and you really can’t go wrong with them, so I’m eager to try it out. I’m not happy with the packaging and wish that it was in a resealable bag. That would have been a nice and thoughtful touch.

IMG_0017Last is the ColorPop Gel Liner in Swerve. This is my first foray into the world of ColorPop, but YouTube has been raving over this company for quite some time. I love the creaminess (I’ve been using that word a lot today) and it just glides on! I will say, that I don’t think it’ll last long on it’s own and might need to be layered with a liquid, but time will tell.

(From Left to Right): Bombshell Secret lipgloss, Boo-Boo Cover-Up, Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Lounge

Sorry, no swatch of the ColorPop Gel Liner.

January and February Ipsy!

So I have been slacking and completely forgot to upload my Ipsy bag for January. But, no worries, we’ll just do a combo post today!

January 2016 IpsyThe January bag is so cute! I really have no complaints about the bag itself. It’s sturdy, large capacity, and has a sturdy zipper. As for the products, I’m going to review (as always) from meh to yaass!

Lasting Smiles Lip Balm in Peppermint Creme
“Lasting Smiles® lip balms are organic and fairtrade certified with pure and moisturizing ingredients sourced from small scale global farming cooperatives….With coconut oil, shea, and cocoa butter for soft hydrated and healthy lips.”
That’s all well and good, but let’s be honest, I pay $.99 for my chap stick. (Thank you Blistex). I don’t want chap stick in my $10 monthly bag. Case closed.

City Color Cosmetics Eyeshadow Trio in Falling Leaves
I tend towards brown/bronze eyeshadows, but something about the color seems off enough that I’m not excited about this. I don’t hate this, but I don’t love it. The colors, in the pan, almost seem muted. I wish I could coherently put into words why I am just meh about this travel trio.

theBalm Cosmetics Mr. Write (Now) (Jack B. Bronze)
This is third on the list, but I am actually really excited about this! This liner might be next on the list, but the excitement levels are so much higher! Okay, I never line my lines in anything other than black. (I should be more adventurous, but I’m not. Sue me.) But I love love looove using liners as eyeshadows because they don’t go anywhere! It provides so much color payoff! Anyway, I’m excited to use this color in the near future.

Coastal Scents Pearl Shadow Angle Large Brush
I struggled with putting this third or second, but since it’s my first brush from Ipsy, I boosted it up a notch. I has a weakness for brushes, and I’ve been wanting to try Coastal Scents’s products for a while. They are pretty comparable to BH Cosmetics which (if you look at my last post here) I really love shopping there. Anyway, my only reservation is that this is on the larger end of the eye brush scale and I have small, hooded eyes, so there might be some learning curve.

skyn ICELAND Travel Size Glacial Cleansing Cloths
This is in my highest spot because of pure luck that I ran out of my other wipes and actually got to use this. I cheated, I know. Anyway, these feel like a soft version of those textured Lysol wipes. One wipe does a great job at removing a full face of makeup (including eye liner and mascara) and it doesn’t leave my face feeling greasy. I would totally buy these for travel purposes only in the future.

February 2016 Ipsy

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil
Why, you might ask, is a Smashbox item on the meh end of my list? Well, let me tell you! My oily ass face does NOT need oil ANYTHING being put on it. That said, there is no way I’d ever use it. I appreciate getting primers and I like Smashbox, but I definitely didn’t come out on top with this one.

Naked Cosmetics Mica Pigment (Espresso Brown)
My swatch of this felt amazing. The pigmentation is there and the color is definitely my cup of tea. If you’ve ready any of my other posts, you’ll know that I’m a bronze girl! Honestly, this isn’t really close to the meh end of the spectrum, but I had to put it somewhere! I decided to put this second ONLY because I am bad with using loose pigment. I get that crap everywhere no matter what I do.

Seraphine Botanicals Carot + Rose Hydrating Creme
This lotion is really good! It smells amazing and is thick enough to properly moisturize, but it’s oily at all. The description claims that it’s long lasting, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I will say, I wash my hands a lot though, so I’m sure it would be longer lasting if I didn’t do that.

Luxie Beauty Flat Definer Brush #221
The description calls this a “tapered blending brush” but the title of the brush is much more accurate. I can never have to many brushes, and currently only have one liner/defining brush, so I am really happy with this! It is described as having a taper, and that is very true! I plan to try this brush out at a brow brush and see how that goes.

OGX Quenching Coconut Curls Curling Butter
“Infused with coconut oil, sweet honey and citrus oils, this versatile hair butter helps to boost your curls’ hydration. Leave it in for a moisturizing treatment or rinse it out for use as a deep conditioner.”
The winner for the omg slot is this curling butter! I LOVE getting hair products to try and this product will definitely be getting some use. First of all, the ingredients are favorable for me and the fact that it is marketed as multi use is a big YES! The butter smells so amazing and, yes, it’s a butter so it’s thicker (think shea butter), but it dissolves really well (think coconut oil). Also, guess who has twists in and will need to be doing a deep condition/moisture treatment when she takes her twists out! That’s right, this girl!

I had really good luck in these past two months! Between the two Ipsy bags, I only got to meh products! What did you get in your bags? Link me to your review/opening!

BH Cosmetics Haul and Ipsy Offer!

Omg! Why do I keep buying makeup!?

Ofra Professional Make Up

This is a 20 shade palette and I am so in love with some of these colors. This is an Ipsy Offer that I splurged on. I am solidly somewhere between ooh and meh with some of these colors. So, let me start by saying that the shimmery bronze (top row, 2nd from right) and the shimmery pink (bottom row, 3 from right) are my total favorites. And I got it just in time for valentine’s day, so that will be happening! Some of the lighter shades are a little ashy looking during the swatching, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t ways to make it work. If you are interested in a video of this palette, comment and let me know!

Carli Bybel 14 Color Eyeshadow & Highlighter

This palette is all the rave on YouTube, right now and was really hard to come by. So, this is sold by BH Cosmetics, which is an affordable online make-up shop. Now, this is an affordable palette, so don’t go expecting Urban Decay Naked level of pigmentation. That being said, I was very impressed by most of the shades. They were buttery and felt very good when swatching. The downside is that there is some flakiness (especially…mostly?) from the matte colors. I’d definitely say this is chocolate girl friendly, but since there are no transition colors, it is somewhat lacking. If you’d like to see some a video including this palette, let me know!

My two lipsticks are the ever popular Missy Lynn Color Lock in Serenity and the BH Cosmetics Color Lock Matte in Rapture. Let me start with Missy Lynn. These lipsticks sell out so fast! O.M.Gooodnessss! So, I actually didn’t want this color, and really wanted the shade Missy Lynn, but that stays sold out! So, instead, I (nervously) got this nude color. But boy let me tell you how pleasantly shocked I was when I swatched this! It wasn’t ashy and tan like I thought it was. Instead it had nice hints of pink, which can definitely be worked with. Now, on to the BH Cosmetics Rapture. Let. Me. Tell. You. About. This. COLOR! It was so beautiful. I really wish I had bought this so I could have enjoyed it all fall and winter. (What was I thinking!?). I have this line of lipstick in a more red shade. (Rapture is a deep purple). It’s long lasting and not drying at all!

Up next are my three BH Costmetics Waterproof Lip Liner in Nude, Spiced, and Rouge. The plan was to use Nude with my new nude Missy Lynn SerenityRouge with Rapture, and Spiced with some other reds that I have around the house. I don’t know how I did it, but I was spot on with my Nude and Rouge pairing! They compliment my lipsticks so well! It’s amazing! As for how well they apply, very little pressure is needed to get a good payout. They are very soft, so they’ll probably need constant sharpening. Hopefully they hold up well to sharpening. W’ll see.

Last but not least, I bought a blending brush (#12) and a lip brush (#2). The blending brush seems a tad scratchy and stiff, but not horrible. I don’t feel that it can be as versatile as some fluffier brushes, but I’ll be able to get the use out of it that I need. Also, there are some “fly aways” so I wonder how well this brush will hold up to cleaning. On the flip side of this review, I’m pleasantly surprised how well the fibers of the lip brush lay. It’s soft and stiff, which is what I was hoping for. Now, this is my first lip brush, so I have to admit that I don’t know what to expect. Otherwise, this brush comes with a removable cap that you snap onto the end of the brush to make it a standard brush length, meaning this is the perfect travel brush!

This little palette was a free gift with purchase from BH Cosmetics. As far as I know, there is no other way to get this palette. It’s called the Essential Eyes To Go 6 color eye-shadow palette. Coincidentally, it comes with shades that are some of my favorite go-to shades. The two middle shades are probably my favorite. It’s a gift that I’m happy to get since I’ll actually use it!

(Left->Right) Carli Bybel (first 5), Rapture lipstick, Serenity lipstick, Nude liner.

The first two (most left) colors are the large highlighter shades.Note: That purple did not swatch well from the Carli Bybel palette.

(Left->Right) Rouge liner, Spiced liner, Ofra swatches (last 5).

That gold (3rd from left) and the pink (5th from left) swatched well, but they are not that pigmented. It would definitely take some building to get some payoff, ESPECIALLY with the matte shades.Note the most right shade? Yea, barely.

Guys! Do you have examples using any of the products listed? If so, post a link to them! Also, if you’d like to see more about these products, let me know!

I Run for Chocolate [Hot Chocolate Run Recap]{Photo Heavy}

Coral E, getting ready to run!

I ran the Hot Chocolate 5k with some friends (who did the 15k). This is my first time doing this run and doing any run (minus my Spartan’s) that had so many people!  Start time was at 7:30 (though being in coral E meant that the start time was really 7:45ish).

I decided to run with my knee brace since this is my first run in a while. And I’m never without my trusty dusty HRM and watch. That running pack fits my HTC One M8 really well, plus chap stick, car keys, and a small cereal bar. My Pearl Izumi’s are filthy, but still holding up great! I might have to buy a new pair soon. I’ve tried so many running sneakers and so far, these (by far) are the best. I can do a review on them if you all are interested!

Hydro Flask with iced water, Shaker bottle with Hammer Recoverite, and some bars to munch on.

The flask was just in case it got warmer than I expected and needed more water that a single bottle. (Soiler, it didn’t.) The Recoverite is my favorite recovery drink and makes up the core of my recovery when I’m riding. I eat significantly less on run days than I do on bike days, so I only had one Trail Mix bar and a few bites of the cliff bar.

Check out my Strava details here.

My Empties

First up are my empty Shea Moisture products!

The Bad:
I truly didn’t care for the deep treatment masque. I got through this product by mixing it with out conditioning products. It’s such a weird, thick texture that I didn’t think it spread easily on my hair. I had to use a lot of this product. That being said, it’s good to mix into a protein/oil treatment.

The Meh:
The Curl Enhancing Smoothie is a “meh” product for me. It doesn’t hurt but there are better things out there (at least for me). It smells amazing, but I think it’s a tad too thin for me, and I end up having to use a lot. Also, I just don’t think it does anything to really help my curls. Caveat: I use the LOC method of managing my hair, and this is definitely not a good cream for me. I haven’t quite figured out why.

The Good:
The leave-in is (so far) my favorite leave-in (especially for using the LOC method). I’ll admit, it’s a weird texture and can be hard to handle due to how extremely fluid it is. Note: I used this in the shower and the container tipped over, spilling half the product out….which is why this is an empty now. 😦 It smells great and can be used dry or wet without feeling oily or weighing your hair down.

Cantu is definitely on the Good list. It’s a little thicker than the Shea Moisture equivalent, but it doesn’t feel like it weighs down my hair. I definitely struggle with having thin, low porosity hair and this definitely locks in any moisture I apply without too much build up. Bonus: It smells great! It’s one of my favorite smelling products.

Last, Kinky-Curly is the original leave-in that I used because the first bottle was given to me. I would add this to the Meh list. I’ll admit that this actually works, really well, but the amount of product I have to use versus how much this bottle actually cost is very high. It took a lot of product before I felt like my hair was responding the way that it should. Also, this leave-in does not work favorably on my hair when it’s dry.

What products have you used up? What do you think of my empties?
